Berne Township Board of Zoning and Appeals 

The Berne Township Board of Appeals (BZA) will hold a public hearing at 6pm on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 at the Berne Township Fire Department at 5872 Sugar Grove Road, Sugar Grove Ohio, 43155. The purpose of this hearing is to elect new officers and discuss any applications that have been set forth. Please access the township website at www.bernetownship.org. Locate the tab at the labeled zoning, and click it. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the section titled zoning minutes and applications. Click the button that says ‘Click Here’ to access zoning information. From there, select either zoning commission or zoning appeals, based on the hearing notice. Then locate the relevant property information. 

Comments may be made in person or in writing on or before the date of the hearing listed above.

The Berne Township Trustees, Fairfield County, Ohio, gives notice that a

Public Hearing will be held on the 16th of December 2025 at 7:30pm at the Berne

Township Fire Department located at 5872 Sugar Grove Road Sugar Grove Ohio

43155.

Change to Zoning Code – A Public Meeting that was held on February 13, 2025 with the

following conducting/attending the meeting Commissioner Jeff Fix, Amy Brown

Thompson Fairfield County Ohio Prosecutor, Regional Planning, Health Department,

and the Berne Township Trustees at this meeting it was confirmed that the Berne

Township Zoning Code does not allow Short Term Rental/Transient Housing. The

meeting on December 16th 2025, will discuss Short Term Rentals Transient Housing

being allowed as Conditional Use with specific requirements/regulations to qualify for

the yearly Permit to operate a short term rental transient housing business. Note – a

committee was formed after the October 2025 Zoning Board Meeting to discuss the

proposed regulations/requirements with Current Short Term Rental/Transient Housing

Owner/Trustee/Zoning Board Member and changes were made.

A copy of the Proposed Zoning Change for the Berne Township Zoning Code – the

proposed Short Term Rental/Transient Housing Compliance and Performance

Standards approved by the Zoning Commission on 11-13-2025 can be viewed on the Berne Township Website. Supporting documents can also be viewed on the website.

All people have a right to appear in person or by representation to question the Zoning

Board or give testimony for or against the proposed zone change amendment.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the matter will be submitted to the Board of Berne

Township Trustees for its action.

The Berne Township Board of Zoning and Appeals (BZA) will hold a meeting on Monday October 20th, 2025 at the Berne Township Fire Department at 5872 Sugar Grove Rd, Sugar Grove Ohio 43155.  The purpose of the hearing is to act upon the minutes from the previous meetings.

Minutes from the September 22nd meeting as well as the October 6th meeting

need to be voted on and approved. No other business will be conducted at this

meeting.

Berne Township Trustee’s will be accepting bids for Tar and Chipping of Township Roads.  For road specifications for bidding contact Kelly Shull at 740-603-6682.  All sealed bids must be received by 5/5/25 by 7:00 pm.  Bids can be mailed to Berne Township Roads Bidding, PO Box 267, Sugar Grove, Ohio 43155.   Berne Township reserves the right to reject any or all bids.  Bids will be opened during the regular meeting scheduled on 5/5/25 at 7:00 pm at 5872 Sugar Grove Road, Sugar Grove, Ohio.
